I didn't buy anything. I'm going to have lots of days I don't buy anything, it looks like. One of my jobs is at a retail store. And many people aren't buying anything. Sales have been way down. I won't be able to buy hardly anything (except food) since retail stores have to cut the worker's hours. But it's good for the environment. Not a good time to have a retail job, though.

I feel for you, Chris. My neighbor was just evicted for not paying her rent. She was was six months behind, and the managment firm had had it with her delinquency. I tried to go down there and talk to them to give her one more chance, as she is a single parent with three children. But, no dice. They would not budge. I felt horrible. She worked in retail, as well, and her hours were drastically reduced. She moved away, and I'm not sure where. I know she was working on her nursing degree, but I'm not sure how close she was to finishing. I got her cell phone, and I've tried to call her on several occasions, but her phone has been cut off.

So, I feel your pain. I've found myself cutting back too, and I thought that I'd be all up in arms, but I'm actually okay with it. I've discontinued my cable television subscription, and I don't miss it.

I have always lived each day as if it was Buy Nothing Day. But I do feel for those feeling the current crunch most severely. It's such a scary thing to realize how much of our economy is based on buying useless, disposable, pointless items, and how much of a gap there is between the richest and the poorest, and how few people occupy the space in between.

What is sadder is the world response in thinking that giving banks more money so that they can lend more credit, so that we can spend more money is the way out - it just puts us right back where we were when this mess began...

My first thought when I read of the credit bailout was that they should have paid all the customers debt off. Why would they give money to bail out credit companies and banks? It's just going to make the same problems worse. Like putting a bandaid on a decapitated head. Oh yes. Everything will be fine now.

Finances make no sense at that level at all. You realise that it is all a front.
They are just skull and bones club members skinning everyone else for the look.
My attempt at black humour on a gloomy Sunday.

That really brings out the French in me.
              Off with their heads!!
              Now!
No one should be treated that way by rapacious greedy capitalists

Yeah, isnt it. But there is a shift going on. There are new industries sprouting everywhere, governments actually supporting their growth..- there are growing industries too..
Power companies are having to restructure and build new facilities,.. new knowledge is being applied, new companies founded..
Motor industry is restructuring.. You cant tell me that the consumer, nor the industry, are going to give up using cars,- especially not in the USA. So new types of vehicles will have to be built, new standards, new facilities to provide them. I am optimistic. In the long run this is going to produce much needed change,.. last minute is still better than never.

Recycling is going to get more and more profitable,- sorting and re-using facilities are needed

The baby-boomer generation is now moving into health care needs, retirement facilities, community programs..
The baby-boom generation has always dominated the consumer market, and whoever provides whatever their needs are, is doing well.

I love BND, it really makes you think about your own and consumerism in general..
